After 35 days of lock-down, restrictions are slowly being lifted from Friday, 1 May 2020 after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the gradual relaxation of our nationwide lock-down by introducing various lock-down levels ranging from level 5 (current situation) to level 1 (desired situation).

Level 4 means that a lot more people will return to work, and other changes will start taking effect – but it does not mean that we are out of lockdown.

So, what can be expected during level 4?

  • You need to continue wearing a mask
    • Everyone is expected to wear a cloth face mask when leaving their house. If you do not yet have a cloth mask, then it can be substituted with a scarf or t-shirt.
  • Curfew
    • No-one is allowed to be outside between 20h00 and 05h00 (and ONLY for essential services and /or goods).
  • Transport
    • A strict limit of 3 people per private car and 70% capacity in taxis.
  • You are not allowed to visit friends or family, or attend church and other public gatherings.
  • Fast food outlets will be allowed to deliver food between 09h00 and 19h00.
  • Alcohol and tobacco sales are still prohibited.
  • Exercise
    • You can walk, cycle and run between 06:00 and 09:00 daily, within a 5km radius from your house.

It is important to note that emergency rooms and General Practitioners are open and allowed to treat any medical conditions during lockdown, and we encourage you to prioritise your health and the health of your loved ones by leaving no condition unchecked during this time.

It is still up to each of us to abide by the rules set out by government to contain the spread of the virus and to protect our country as a whole from the devastating effects of COVID-19.
